Description

All the goodness of steel-cut oatmeal is easy to get thanks to the slow cooker. Put everything in the slow cooker before going to bed and wake up to a healthy and hearty breakfast.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups steel-cut oats
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Choice of toppings such as brown sugar, berries, bananas, and/or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a 6 quart crockpot, stir together steel-cut oats, water, and milk. Cover with lid and cook on low setting for 3 hours. When cooking time is over, stir in salt. Serve with choice of toppings.

Notes

  • If you are planning to cook the oatmeal overnight, increase water to 5 1/2 cups and milk to 3 cups. Cook 3 hours and let sit on warm setting until morning.
  • Leftover oatmeal can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days. To reheat, spoon desired amount of oatmeal into a microwave safe bowl. Add a splash of milk. Warm oatmeal in the microwave at medium power for 1-2 minutes. Stir. Add more milk as necessary and continue warming in microwave, until the oatmeal is creamy and heated through.
